You are not unemployed but you are still looking for employment? You can register with the Employment Service and your name will be entered in the register of job seekers. If you expect the termination of an employment contract for business reasons or reasons of inability you should register with the Employment Service not later than in three working days after the termination notice has been served.

1. You can be listed in the register of job seekers, if you are:
- employed,
- self-employed,
- a homemaker,
- a secondary school student, university student or
- otherwise inactive as regards employment.
2. Do you expect the termination of an employment contract for business reasons or reasons of inability?
Then you should register with the Employment Service not later than in three working days after the termination notice has been served. Your name will be entered in the register of job seekers.
Please note: If you fail to register with the Employment Service as a job seeker within three working days, unemployment benefit for the first three months will be paid in an amount of 60% of the average monthly salary that you received before unemployment began.
You must also register with the Employment Service within 30 days of the termination of employment. Your name will be entered in the register of unemployed, as this provides a basis for exercising the right to unemployment benefit. Please submit the application for unemployment benefit when registering.
Notes about the time limits for registering with the Employment Service:
- 3 working days after receiving notice of termination (for the register of job seekers) and then
- 30 calendar days after the termination of employment (for the register of unemployed persons).
3. Your name can be entered in the register of job seekers if:
- you are a foreigner and citizen of a state other than the EU Member State, the EEA (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein) countries or Switzerland and you have free access to the Slovenian labour market according to the law on the basis of a:
⇒ permanent residence permit in Slovenia;
⇒ temporary residence permit in Slovenia for the purpose of family reunion with a Slovenian citizen, temporary residence permit issued to foreigners of Slovenian origin, issued to victims of trafficking in human beings or to victims of illegal employment;
⇒ right to international protection (free access to the Slovenian labour market is also enjoyed by your family members by law who live in Slovenia on the basis of a residence permit for family reunion);
⇒ granted status of a person enjoying temporary protection;
- you are a foreigner holding a valid single residence and work permit issued on the basis of consent for employment, self-employment or work (also a foreigner with an EU Blue Card);
- you are a foreigner holding a valid personal work permit issued under the Employment and Work of Foreigners Act (ZZDT-1) until the date of expiry of the personal work permit (Article 75 - transitional provision in respect of the Labour Market Regulation Act (ZUTD).
Foreigners must comply with the above conditions for the entire duration of keeping records in the register of job seekers.
